Race Report: Deltona Honor & Remember 5K 2016

The inaugural Deltona Honor & Remember 5K took place on a very foggy morning at Dewey Boster Park. The race was part of the Live Your Life Well series and meant to honor veterans and first responders, with proceeds benefiting local charities. The run took us through the park and neighboring residential areas.

Training & Goals
This race was the weekend following Wine & Dine weekend. I didn't have any particular goals for this race. I just can't resist local charity races. I was looking forward to a nice training run in a spot I'd never run before.

Race Day: November 13, 2016
The fog made the drive in a bit slow and the humidty was stifling. The temp at the start was a cool 63°F with 100% humidity.

Mile 1: 10:02

Mile 2: 10:24

Mile 3+: 10:34, 1:34*

The fog persisted deep into the morning and the entire run was shrouded in humid mist. I can deal with heat much better than humidity so I was pretty miserable for the duration of this race, oh well!

Chip time: 31:57
Placement details: 7/14 in Age Group; 46/121 overall
Race Amenities: All runners got a cotton race shirt and a small finisher medal
Cost: $23.00

*I often forget to turn off my Garmin after a race, so the final time is skewed.

Local 5K Race Report: Groovin' @ the Grove 2016

Final Mile Race Management had a promotion this year: free birthday races! My birthday fell on a Saturday this year and there happened to be a race, Groovin’ @The Grove 5k & Family Fun Run in Deland. I got a free registration by sending a copy of my ID -- sweet! The race was to benefit Citrus Grove Elementary School and had a lot of students signed up to race.

Race Recap: Running Wild on the Wekiva Parkway 5K

The Wekiva Parkway 5K was a one-time opportunity for runners to race on a new stretch of highway before its grand opening to auto traffic. The fun of this unique run and the cute bear-shaped medal are what got me to sign up. Training & Goals Still muddling...

Race Recap: Pump House Run 5K

I participated in the Pump House Run in Lake Apopka, Florida this year. I'm not sure but I think it was an inaugural event. The main run was an 8-miler from Magnolia Park along hard-packed gravel roads to the historic Pump House by the lake. There was...

Local 5K Race Report: Volusia Pines 5K 2016 or: That Time I Won a Race

So I kind of signed up for the Volusia Pines Elementary 5K on a whim. I was looking for races on RunSignUp.com and this nearby event came up. There weren't a lot of participants listed and the price was right ($10) so I thought I'd go for it. After I registered online, I realized I hadn't been asked my shirt size. And that it wasn't a timed race, which was something I'd meant to avoid. RunSignUp allowed cancellation for a while before the registration went through, so I cancelled my registration and sent an inquiry to the race director... who thanked me profusely for signing up. I got the t-shirt business sorted out and signed up again for the race. The race was to raise money for the school's kindergarten playground.
